Will You Be My Neighbor?

I cant believe I still get choked up when I think about this.

As a boy, there was a person who had a particular influence on whom I became and how I treat others as a result.

Today is the anniversary of his show “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood”. Here are a few things Mr. Rogers taught me:

1. The more you grow into a helpful person yourself, the happier you’ll find this world of ours.

2. Discovering the truth about ourselves is a lifetime’s work, but it’s worth the effort.

3. Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else.

4. Fame is a four-letter word. And like tape, or zoom, or face, or pain, or life, or love, what ultimately matters is what we do with it

5. The world needs a sense of worth, and it will achieve it only when its people feeling that they are worthwhile.

Most of all, when I felt most alone as a young aspiring scientist, he always said something that made me feel better:

“there’s no person in the whole world like you, and I like you just the way you are”.

Take some time today to bring out the best in those around you, help one another, and be kind.

Trust me, it goes a long way.
